Spiritual Leadership 300W
This class taught me how to research a real-world question by pulling from more than one field instead of looking at it from just one angle. We followed Repko and Szostak's 10-step interdisciplinary research process, which walks you through picking a question, finding insights from different disciplines, spotting where they agree and disagree, and pulling it all together into a bigger understanding. Along the way, we did workshops, peer reviews, and visual projects that built up to one big research paper.
Project Name- Spirtual Leadership in Public Service
For my research paper, I asked: What is Fry's Spiritual Leadership Mode, and how can it be applied to developing leadership in public service? Louis Fry's model is built on three pieces: vision, hope/faith, and altruistic love. I looked at it through psychology, theology and religious studies, and philosophy and ethics, and used sources like Fry's own books and his study on spiritual leadership in the Army.
The biggest insight I got was that spiritual leadership isn't about religion. It's about leading with meaning, purpose and real care for people, and that works in a church, a military unit, or a government office. Each field added something the others couldn't, which showed me why looking at a question from different angle matters. It also connected right to where I'm headed, since I want to keep serving and counseling others after I retire.
