Requesting Reasonable Accommodation
ENGL 307T - Requesting Reasonable Accommodations
For this project, I created a video tutorial called, "Requesting Reasonable Accommodations" to walk employees through asking for an accommodation at work. I explained what a resonable accommodation is in plain terms, shared the questions to ask yourself before writing a request, and broke the process into six simple best practices, from naming the job tasks being affected to asking for a timely response. I also walked viewers through a sample request letter they could fill in and use for themselves.
The biggest insight I got from this project was that a process feels scary and complicated doesn't have to be. It just has to be clear. Writing for real people instead of a professor taught me to use plain language, think about what my audience actually needs, and give them something they can act on right away. It also connected to the advocacy work I've done for years, which made it one of the most meaningful projects in the course.
